Emmy-winning actor Jeremy Allen White continues his meteoric rise in Hollywood, signing on to star alongside industry veterans Mandy Patinkin and Isabella Rossellini in a new surreal family drama.
Jeremy Allen White’s star power continues to grow as he joins legendary talents Patinkin and Rossellini in an ambitious new project.
The untitled project, helmed by acclaimed director Jeremiah Zagar of “We the Animals” and “Hustle” fame, will blend live-action with stop-motion animation to create a visually distinctive narrative experience.
The film centers on Elisha, portrayed by White, who navigates dual existences as a devoted family man by day while secretly obsessing over a mysterious project at night. This passion project, dedicated to both his young son and ailing father, consumes his after-hours life until a personal crisis forces him to return to his hometown of Baltimore, where his carefully constructed world begins to crumble.
Zagar’s vision, described as “about love” at its core, explores weighty themes of masculinity, family obligation, artistic expression, and emotional inheritance. The Baltimore setting serves as more than backdrop, functioning as a character unto itself in this meditation on what fathers pass down to their children, for better or worse.
White, who skyrocketed to A-list status with his turn in FX’s “The Bear” after years on “Shameless,” brings his trademark intensity to a role that demands both vulnerability and stoic determination. The storyline of “The Painted Bride” beautifully captures the emotional struggle between personal aspirations and family responsibilities.
Patinkin, the “Homeland” veteran with gravitas to spare, and Rossellini, the Oscar-nominated screen legend, round out a powerhouse ensemble that promises nuanced performances. The project follows a growing trend where complex female characters are redefining traditional narratives across all film genres.
The production team includes Jeremy Yaches, Paul Mezey, Andrew Goldman, and Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, with international rights already snapped up by Charades and New Europe.
WME Independent will handle North American distribution rights, with sales launching at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Expected to premiere later this year, this surreal family drama arrives at a time when audiences crave authentic storytelling with visual innovation.
The film’s actual title is The Painted Bride, contrary to earlier reports of it being untitled, and represents Zagar’s artistic follow-up to his successful Netflix film Hustle.
Zagar’s track record suggests viewers should prepare for an emotionally raw journey that might just redefine what family dramas can accomplish when convention is abandoned for artistic truth.
